  • Unicon Announces uPortal 3 Commercial Support
    Phoenix, AZ - May 5, 2008 - Unicon, Inc., the leading provider of open source enterprise portals, applications, and top end technology consulting for higher education, today announced commercial support for uPortal 3, the next generation community source portal platform designed by and for the higher education community.

  • Johns Hopkins University Selects Unicon to Develop uPortal Mobile for Campus & Students
    Phoenix, AZ - April 21, 2008 - Unicon, Inc., the leading provider of open source enterprise portals, applications, and top end technology consulting for higher education, today announced it has been chosen by Johns Hopkins University to develop and deploy its new mobility theme based on uPortal, the open source enterprise portal for higher ed. The mobility theme is designed to enhance the functionality and content of its campus portal to make it accessible by mobile devices such as cell phones, SmartPhones, and PDAs and more useful to students, faculty, and administrators. The mobility development work and testing is scheduled to be completed and go live in the summer of 2008. Johns Hopkins University plans to donate the mobile development work back to the uPortal open source community.

  • JA-SIG Releases uPortal 3.0.0-GA for Production Use
    The JA-SIG uPortal Project Steering Committee is extremely pleased to announce the release of uPortal 3.0, the next generation community source portal platform designed by and for the higher education community. The new release marks a major, evolutionary step forward for the award-winning project. Version 3.0 has brought the rock solid, high performing uPortal 2.x product to a new level, incorporating current best practices in enterprise Java. The entire uPortal community can unite on one branch moving forward, and it is now possible for everyone to migrate to the latest version of uPortal when appropriate for their institution. uPortal 3.0 builds upon the flexibility and reliability of uPortal 2.x while providing an attractive look and feel using improved JavaScript libraries, even more robust portlet support, a modern build environment, use of leading Java frameworks (Spring), and other enhancements, bringing the larger deployments and performance already achieved in uPortal 2 in easier reach of more uPortal adopters.

  • JA-SIG Server Outage March 15th and 16th
    Due to scheduled down time, all sites on www.ja-sig.org, developer.ja-sig.org and www.uportal.org will be unavailable from 6pm Eastern Time, Saturday March 15th through 10pm Eastern Time, Sunday March 16th. This means that the wiki, issue tracker, web site, source, and downloads will be unavailable during this time frame. The mailing lists will be unaffected. If you have any questions or concerns about the outage please contact infrastructure@ja-sig.org Sorry for any inconvenience that may occur from this downtime.

  • 170 Participants Attend Fifth ESUP-Portail Conference in Paris
    One hundred and seventy participants recently attended the "ESUP-Days" conference in Paris (Feb. 5, 2008) organized by the ESUP-Portail consortium.

  • St. Paul, MN April JA-SIG Conference Seminars Announced
    JA-SIG is pleased to announce selection of pre- and post-conference seminars about open source software for the Spring 2008 JA-SIG conference to be held in St. Paul, Minnesota. Pre-conference events to be held on Sunday April 27th include tutorials on uPortal and DSpace upgrading; seminars on JavaScript and identity management; and hands-on introductions to Kuali Financials, Spring PortletMVC, Fedora repository, and CAS. Post-conference events on Wednesday April 30th include introductions to uPortal, Kuali Rice, and Sakai, as well as a half-day Bar Camp. Oh, and there will be a whole conference in between these seminars: more on that to come.     uPortal 2.5.3.1, a security patch release including a fix to a critical security vulnerability present in uPortal 2.5.3, is now available.

    Yale University has successfully upgraded their uPortal instance to a pre-release of uPortal 2.6.0, proving in production Yale's contribution of more dynamic drag-and-drop user preferences technology.

    uPortal 2.6.0 RC1 is now available for download. The many improvements in this release include: drag-and-drop preferences support, better JSR-168 preferences support, oodles of dependency upgrades.

  • uPortal 3 Developer Workshop Scheduled in April
    Time will be set aside on the Wednesday of the spring Developers Meeting (4/25) for uPortal 3 developer training and mentoring. We encourage anyone interested in learning more about uPortal framework development or beginning a uPortal 3 implementation to attend. Training will be conducted by some of the core uP3 developers.

  • Johns Hopkins University Sponsors uPortal Developer Conference
    Johns Hopkins University today announced its sponsorship of the Spring JA-SIG uPortal Developers Conference. This spring's conference will be held Monday and Tuesday, April 23 and 24, 2007, 9 AM to 4 PM each day. Developers are encouraged to stay for the remainder of the week (April 25 - 27) for an extended coding session.

  • UBC_Webmail 3.2 Beta Now Available
    UBC_Webmail beta release 3.2 has been tagged in the CVS repository with tag "beta_release_3-2". It will be available for testing until 9 February 2007. Thanks to Paul Gazda, Holly Coast, and George Lindholm for their contributions to this release.

  • uPortal 3 Release Candidate now available
    uPortal 3, the next generation open source enterprise portal, is now available for download. Institutions can immediately begin working with and testing the portal's latest frameworks and enhancements for their future planned rollouts and implementations. Unicon served as the chief architectural organization responsible for developing most of uPortal 3's technology framework enhancements and for delivering it to the uPortal open source community in its current state.

  • CAMPUSEAI Consortium Announces Support For JA-SIG uPortal
    CLEVELAND ­ September 13, 2006 ­ CampusEAI Consortium (CEAI) today announced its support of JA-SIG uPortal. To support uPortal, CEAI provides access to the CEAI Vault, a repository of CEAI-supported community source channels for uPortal clients to decrease the risk, time and cost associated with their portal deployments and ongoing channel development.

    Two Hundred and twenty participants recently attended the "ESUP-Days" conference in Paris (22 and 23 June 2006) organized by the ESUP-Portail consortium.

  • Power outage to disrupt access to JA-SIG web presense
    At Princeton, An extended computing service outage is planned from 7 p.m. Friday, June 9, through 6 a.m. Monday, June 12, 2006 to install a new electrical transformer. As a result, the JA-SIG home page, the uPortal home page, the developer.ja-sig.org site (CVS, Fisheye, Luntbuild, etc), and the clearinghouse application will all be down that entire weekend.
